Description
"Yankee Doodle Dandy" is the title of my portrait of iconic Hollywood actor, James Cagney. Described as one of the best film actors of all time by international film critics, Cagney won the Academy Award for his 1942 portrayal of composer, George M. Cohan in the film Yankee Doodle Dandy. Cagney was a boxer, comic, Broadway song and dance man, character actor and film director. He was a true American patriot who made numerous USO tours to entertain U.S. military personnel in WW II. In his fifty six year career he starred in 68 films, won numerous awards and nominations for awards, was awarded the Presidential Medal Of Freedom, presented to him by long time friend, President Ronald Reagan. He was also one of the recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors award in 1980.
